Chadron Kiwanis showcases young talent at ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ event

The annual Chadron Kiwanis Club “Stars of Tomorrow” youth talent contest, delayed 2 weeks by snow, was held yesterday with 10 competitors.

Stars of Tomorrow has 4 age groups, but 2 of them –  D-I for K-3rd graders and D-3 for 7th-9th graders – had no entries this year.

The winner in Division 2, covering 4th-6th grades, was Crawford-area home-schooled 6th grader Cody Holmgren with a piano solo, “Toccata in F-Minor”by Robert Vandall.

Placing 2nd was another home-schooled 6th grader, Lillian Jondreau of Chadron, with an original reading while Allison Taylor, a 6th-grader at Chadron Middle School. was 3rd with a gymnastics routine.

Taking top honors in Division 4 or the Senior Division, 10th-12th grades, was vocalist Sophia Oladimeji with the solo “She Used to be Mine” from the musical Waitress.

Her victory brings Oladimeji a $150 scholarship and the right to represent Chadron in the Stars of Tomorrow district competition later this spring.

2nd and 3rd in the Senior Division were 2 dance groups sharing some of the same dancers and some younger than 10th-12th grade.

Katie Cook, Claire Fox, Alyssa Stephens, Allison Taylor, and Sara Carrick were 2nd with “Shake” while Fox, Stephens, and Taylor were 3rd with a jazz dance “Me Without You.”

Providing entertainment while the judges were compiling the results was local magician Jared Fernau, a past Stars of Tomorrow competitor and now a frequent entertainer at the show.
