Cass County woman dies during attempted arrest; NSP investigating

WEEPING WATER, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating an incident that left one person dead in Cass County Monday evening.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve multiple arrest warrants at a residence at 9901 Adams Street in rural Cass County. As deputies were attempting to make contact with the subject, according to incident reports, they heard an apparent gunshot come from inside the residence. Deputies then say they heard a person call for help.

Deputies entered the residence and located a female with an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies attempted live-saving measures, but the woman passed away at the scene. There were two people in the residence at the time of the incident.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has requested that the Nebraska State Patrol conduct the investigation, which will be conducted as an in-custody death investigation. Preliminary investigation has determined that no deputies discharged a weapon at any point during the incident.

The identity of the deceased person is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
