Workers removing shelving and coolers from a former No Frills Supermarket location in Council Bluffs found a body that appears to have been in the store “for an extended period of time,” Bluffs police said Thursday.

The body was discovered by employees of a contracting firm working at the former store location at 1817 West Broadway. Police were called to the building just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

No Frills closed the West Broadway store in 2016.

The Pottawattamie County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene. The body was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa.

Bluffs Police Sgt. Brandon Danielson said police don’t have any identification for the person and don’t know how the person died.
