Bellevue man believed to have unintentionally dragged dog from car

A small dog was injured Saturday when its leash apparently got caught in a car door and was dragged by the car an estimated seven to 10 blocks in the Olde Towne area of Bellevue, police said.

Police were investigating the incident Saturday evening and said it initially appeared unintentional.

The gray and white dog, which weighed an estimated 10 pounds, was taken to an Omaha animal hospital after the car stopped at a convenience store at 502 W. Mission Ave. in Bellevue.

A charge of animal cruelty is possible for the driver, a 57-year-old Bellevue man, Bellevue Police Lt. Chad Reed said.

The incident was reported by a bystander at 6:07 p.m.
