BRIDGEPORT - Morrill County authorities responded to a fatal rollover accident on County Road 101, six miles northeast of Bridgeport, at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The Morrill County Attorney's office says two males, ages 16 and 17, were traveling south on the county road when the driver approached a curve and lost control of the vehicle. The pair were returning home from work.
The passenger, Bruno Ramos, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramos was entering his sophomore season with the Bridgeport High School football where he played on the offensive line and linebacker.
It's the second consecutive season the Bulldog football program has suffered a loss. In September 2020, a car accident on Hwy. 26 claimed the life of tight end and safety, Josh Warren. Warren was the team's leading tackler at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle in Saturday's accident, who has not been identified, was treated and released from Regional West Medical Center.
According to the investigation, restraints appeared to be in use. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor.
Counselors are available Monday at the district office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The service is open to anyone.
