Authorities arrest wanted fugitive in Sidney

SIDNEY – A male fugitive wanted on several charges in Arizona and Wyoming was arrested at a Sidney area motel on Thursday.

Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs says Tracy Hoops was taken into custody at approximately 3 p.m. after being identified by the Sheriff’s Office, Sidney Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and WING Drug Task Force. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Cheyenne County Jail on local charges of two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic equipment.

The United State Marshall’s Service contacted the Sheriff’s Office on April 15 in regards to Hoops whereabouts. He is wanted on a felony warrant from the Arizona Department of Corrections for a parole violation (no bond).

Hoops also has a felony warrant for his arrest in Laramie County, Wyoming for aggravated assault and battery, eluding, careless driving, speeding, and failure to stop at a stop sign (no bond). When the authorities tried to contact Hoops in Laramie County, he fled, resulting in a high speed chase. Hoops crashed the vehicle he was driving and was able to escape on foot.
