Another tax cut in the Metro? Not today

A last minute push to cut taxes in the Metro has come up short, way short.

The city of Omaha recently cut property taxes by 2-percent.

One Douglas County Commissioner moved today to cut the county's mill levy by one cent, arguing property valuations in the county have jumped considerably.

(See Commissioner Jim Cavanaugh's comments above]

The board voted 4-1 against the tax cut, with Chairwoman Mary Ann Borgeson calling Cavanaugh's plan, "totally disingenuous."

According to Borgeson, Cavanaugh never raised the idea when the board was making budget decisions for the next year.
