Ambulance takes away young fan at Class B State Baseball Tournament

ALLIANCE, Neb. - Emergency officials were called to Bower-Shankland Field in Alliance, Neb. Saturday afternoon after a fan fell in the stands. The incident happened as the National Anthem was just beginning during the Class B State Legion Baseball Tournament Opening Ceremonies. With all eight-teams on the field, a loud "bang" could be heard in the stands and the Star-Spangled Banner immediately stopped. Former Nebraska City High School Baseball Coach Tom Bales witnessed the incident and said the fan, a young girl, passed out next to him and his family. When she fainted, she hit her neck on the backrest in the row of seats in front of her. Worried she couldn't breathe, Bales was the first to approach the young girl and held her head. When he did that, the young girl took a deep breath. According to another witness, the fan had been taking antibiotics. This was the second time a fan fell in the stands at the stadium. During the first game of the tournament between Nebraska City and Blair, a McCook fan took a stumble, but was okay after sitting on the ground for a few minutes. Emergency officials arrived on scene shortly after 3 p.m. and took her to the Alliance Hospital via ambulance. There is no word on her condition.
