64-year-old man dies following two-vehicle crash in Merrick County

A 64-year-old man died and two other people were injured as the result of a two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Nebraska Highway 92 in Merrick County.

The names of the deceased and injured are being withheld pending notification of family. Investigators from the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at 8:17 a.m. near Central City.

According to a preliminary investigation report, a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria was westbound on Highway 92 near mile marker 375 when it crossed the center line. The Crown Victoria collided with an eastbound 2011 Chevy Malibu.

The driver of the Crown Victoria was pronounced dead at the Merrick Medical Center. Another 64-year-old man riding in the Crown Victoria had non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Malibu, a 39-year-old woman, also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Seat belts were not believed to be in use in the Crown Victoria. They were in use in the Malibu, the report said.
