33-year-old man is accused of cutting his girlfriend with a sword

A 33-year-old man accused of cutting his girlfriend with a sword was covered in blood when police arrived at a house in Lincoln.

Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Lincoln police said, a 33-year-old woman called 911 and said her boyfriend had cut her inside a house near 19th and South Streets. Officers who responded found the man with one sword draped on him and another attached to his belt.

The officers told the man to put down the swords. He screamed for them to just shoot him, but he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of a cut on his right hand and one on the back of his head. His father already had taken the woman to the hospital so she could be treated for an injury above her left eye.

The woman said the man and his friend had been drinking and got into an argument about the man swinging a sword inside the home. The men wrestled over the sword, police said, and the 33-year-old cut his hand during the struggle. Afterward, the friend gathered his belongings and left the home, police said.

The 33-year-old then directed his anger at his girlfriend, police said, and chased her as he swung the sword. After the sword hit her above her eye, she dove under a bed and the man stabbed the mattress, police said. The woman eventually fled from the house.

The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Five katana swords were recovered from the home.
