3 people killed, 2 injured in crash south of Denison, Iowa

Three people were killed and two people were injured early Thursday in a two-vehicle crash south of Denison, Iowa.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. at U.S. Highway 59 and 270th Street near Defiance, Iowa, the Iowa State Patrol said.

A 1997 Ford Windstar driven by Penny Hulsebus, 52, of Defiance, was southbound on the highway when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2008 Nissan Rogue driven by Saul Armando Guzman Orellana, 46, of Denison, the patrol said.

Hulsebus was killed, as were two rear-seat passengers in the Rogue: Maria Petra Garcia Hernandez, 48, and Ericka Leticia Dionicio, 42, both of Denison. Herme Yaneth Guzman Hernandez, 50, also of Denison, and Orellana were injured and taken to the hospital.

Denison is about 70 miles northeast of Omaha.
