25-year-old Lincoln man struck and killed by train near Waverly

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 25-year-old Lincoln man who was struck and killed by a train Thursday just west of Waverly. Jeremy Sanchez was struck by a BNSF Railway freight train while walking east on or near some railroad tracks about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He was near the intersection of Amberly Road and U.S. Highway 6, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Witnesses said the train crew sounded the horn and applied the emergency brakes “for some time prior to the train hitting Sanchez,” according to a press release. Deputies found Sanchez’s body between the railroad tracks and Highway 6.
An autopsy has been ordered.
