2 people killed in Highway 50 crash in Sarpy County were parents of 5 children

The husband and wife who died in a crash Monday afternoon in Sarpy County were the parents of five children.
Adam Penick, 44, and Jennifer Penick, 38, of Omaha, were killed in the crash. Sarpy County Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Griger said the Penicks were the parents of five children. One of them, 5-year-old Unity, was in the back seat of the Penicks' vehicle when the crash occurred. She sustained an injury to her arm and was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center. Investigators say the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. as Adam Penick was driving his wife and daughter north on Highway 50  in a 2007 Buick Terraza minivan.
The minivan crossed the median and struck by a southbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Two other vehicles also were involved in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck, Bobbi Gerdes, 41, of Louisville, Nebraska, was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy. She was listed in serious condition at the hospital Tuesday.
The minivan and the pickup truck both were considered total losses. The two other vehicles involved in the crash sustained minor damage and their occupants were not injured.
