LINCOLN – Grand Island will be heading into the playoffs with momentum on their side.
The Islanders racked up their third win in a row with a 16-13 victory over Lincoln Southeast on Friday evening.
Grand Island took a 7-0 lead into halftime thanks to a Timo Sikes four-yard score midway through the second quarter, but Lincoln Southeast quarterback Jack Strong capped off the Knights’ opening drive of the third quarter with a 12-yard strike to Issac Appelget to tie things 7-7.
The Islanders would take a 9-7 lead early in the fourth quarter after a failed LSE punt bounced off a Knight player and rolled out of the end zone. After the safety Grand Island marched down the field and Cole Evans pended in a one-yard score to make it 16-7.
Southeast did cut the lead to three after strong connected with Issac Gifford for a nine-yard TD with under a minute to play, but the Islanders recovered the onside kick to seal the game.
