Gretna Runs Past Northwest
Gretna defeated Northwest 39-19 to end the Vikings' season on Friday.

GRAND ISLAND – The Gretna rushing attack was too much for Northwest to handle.

The Vikings hosted the top-seeded Dragons in the second round of the playoffs on Friday and fell 39-19.

Senior running back Tanner Tierney led Gretna by rushing for 235 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries.

Gretna took a 10-7 lead into halftime with Northwest’s score coming by Carter Terry hitting Danny Fisher for 40-yard score midway through the second quarter.

Coming out of the break the Dragon rushing attack couldn’t be slowed down. Gretna scored on their opening drive and Northwest would be unable to close the gap in the final two quarters.

The Vikings’ Adam Cooper punched in a two-yard score with 10:07 left in the game to make it 26-13 but Gretna drove back down the field and capped off the drive with a five-yard TD by quarterback Quinn Mason to put the Dragons up 32-13.

The Vikings final score came with Brady Glause hauling down a pass in double coverage and taking it 80 yards to make it 32-19.

Glause finished the night with 132 yards on eight catches. Riley Schliep added 81 yards on six receptions. Quarterback Carter Terry threw for 315 yards and two TDs.
