Memorial Services for Levera M. Scott age 85

July 15, 1932 - September 11, 2017
Govier Brothers Mortuary

Lavera May Scott was born on July 15, 1932, to Arlo Roy and Mary Margaret Mathauser McGrew at Comstock Nebraska and passed from this mortal life on September 11, 2017, at the age of 85 years and 58 days old.

At a young age, she and her parents lived in several communities in and between Comstock, Taylor and Burwell Nebraska. At one point in her life, her parents owned a traveling roller skating rink and she could roller skate by the age of three. Most of her years were spent on the farms that her Dad rented and farmed until buying their own farm west of Burwell.

Lavera graduated from Loup County High School and then attended a summer of Teachers College in Kearney after which she taught in several country schools in Garfield and Loup Counties. Her fondest memory at the Kent Country School was when a younger student came and told her about the large cat they had outside, after investigating she found that a mountain lion was outside and she ran to the stables to lock the horses up and then back to the schoolhouse to keep the children inside. Not having a phone back then they had to wait until someone came searching for their children and chase the cat off.

Lavera met the love of her life at a dance at Oscars Palladium in Sargent Nebraska and on December 23, she and John Scott were United in marriage, not having a very long honeymoon as Jack shipped back out to Korea on the 24th things went back to normal teaching until joining him in Hawaii where they lived until his discharge.

John and Lavera moved back to the family farm after his discharge where they took over and lived and farmed until retiring from farming in 1988. In the sixties and seventies, you could always find Lavera in the little red milk barn where she would be milking 60 to 100 cows for their Grade B Dairy. If you were lucky you would have one of the cows named after you

To this union, three children were born. Mary, Randy, and Gary, making her life complete as a wife and mother.

In 1988 they started managing motels and apartment complexes from California to Texas. Both decided when it was time to retire from that and move home. In 2002 they moved from the farm to Westerville to be on better roads and closer to their son for help if needed.

Lavera was a member of the Christian Church in Ansley, American Legion Auxiliary Post 251 and several other Auxiliary organizations serving in many positions.

At Lavera’s time of death, she leaves to mourn her daughter Mary Elizabeth Reed, husband Jerry, of Medicine Park, Oklahoma, Son Randy wife Melea of Westerville. Grand Children Brian Reed (Stacie) Crystal Vickerf , Marissa Reed, Brigham Scott (Bobbie), Kade (Mandy), Talon (Cami), Tazalea, LaKoya Thompson (Robert) and McKway and several Great Grand Children and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-brother, her husband John and son Gary.
