Memorial services Ellen Victoria Pirnie, age 86 formerly of Berwyn will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor Tyce Jensen officiating.  Inurnment will be held in the Ansley Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International.

Ellen is survived by her four daughters, Barb and Tom Strombeck of Westville, Oklahoma, Cheryl Hilton of Kearney, Nebraska, Joleen Schnieder of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Rachel and Guy Bitz, of Ravenna, Nebraska. Ellen is also survived by grandchildren, Kylee Derr, of Denver, Colorado, Caitlin Derr of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Amanda Berry of Lexington, Nebraska, Jesse Hilton of Kearney, Nebraska, Danie Hilton of Shelton, Nebraska, Cory Schnieder of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Jamie Buckner of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Victoria Bitz, Bailey Bitz and Guy Bitz II of Ravenna, Nebraska and ten great grandchildren.

Ellen Victoria Pirnie was born August 10, 1930, in Snyder, Colorado to William and Rosella Houston. She was the oldest of four children. Ellen attended Morgan elementary and Hill Rose High School, graduating in 1947. During her school years, Ellen was active in a local 4-H Club. In 1950 she married Rex McCullough. They had five children, Rex Jr., Barb, Cheryl, Joleen, and Rachael. While Rex served in the Marines the young family lived in California but returned to Brush, Colorado after his services ended. In 1956 the family moved to the farm south of Berwyn, where they lived for 21 years. Ellen helped begin the Happy Hollow 4-H Club where she served as a leader for fifteen years. Ellen married Edwin Pirnie in 1986. The couple lived on Edwin’s wheat farm near Briggsdale, Colorado.

Ellen enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions, as well as quilting. Ellen passed away July 12, 2017, after her second battle with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Rosella, brother, Homer, sisters Agnes, and Mildred and son, Rex Jr.
