Virginia Walker, 87, of Callaway, died Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Callaway District Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Callaway United Methodist Church with the Reverend Shanon Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Merna Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna after Burial. The service will be livestreamed at www.govierbrothers.com. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Visitation will also take place on Thursday from 9:00 am until service time at the Church. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Mary Virginia was born on September 29, 1933 in rural Valley County, Nebraska to Louie and Martha (McNamee) Chilewski. Virginia grew up in Comstock, Nebraska and graduated from Comstock High School in 1950. After graduation she moved to Broken Bow and worked at Holcomb Pharmacy until meeting the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Walker Jr. at the home of mutual friends while he was home on leave. After a short courtship of letters Bob returned home and they were married on October 26, 1953. To this union five children were born: Karen, Kathy, Robert III, Kelli, and Kori. The family made their home wherever the Navy sent them until Bob’s retirement in 1973. They then moved to Wellsville, Kansas where Bob was an electrician and as she always did, Virginia continued to keep the home clean, everyone well-fed and happy, she was a wonderful homemaker! Upon Bob’s father’s death in 1975, the family decided to move home to Nebraska to farm and ranch, retiring from that and moving to town in the early 1990’s. They moved to Callaway when Bob’s health helped made the decision to be closer to his doctor and their church, and then when Bob was in need of dialysis it made the decision to move to Kearney necessary. Virginia decided to move back to Callaway after Bob’s death in 2019 and made her home in Callaway until the time of her death.
Virginia’s greatest joy in life, were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved going to all of their activities that she could and also loved to make their favorite foods and have plenty of treats for everyone when they came over. Virginia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Always there when any of her family needed her, ready to help in every way she could. Virginia also babysat most of her grandchildren and oldest great-grandson and also for Ron and Cheri Chytka’s three children, who have always called her Grandma and she considered them her grandchildren, what a blessing the Chytka family was to her!
Those left to cherish her memory include: daughters, Karen (Mark) Myers of Merna, Kathy (Dennis) Anderson of Portland, Texas, Kelli (Alan) Estergard of Callaway, and Kori (Scott) Quarles of Tonganoxie, Kansas, grandchildren, Codi (Chad) Kreutzer, Claire & Cami Jo of Amherst, Nebraska, Stephanie (Heath) Paulsen, Kaden and Conner of Oconto, Melissa (Jesse) Pandorf, Grant, Jackson, Madison and Monroe of Kearney, Robert (Brittany) Myers of Sargent, Ashley Anderson of Portland, Texas and Matthew (Angela) Markham, Grayson and Harper of Omaha, great-grandson, Rowan Thompson of Portland, Texas, sisters-in-law, Leona Cossart of Belleville, Kansas, Donna Seeger of Sebring, Florida, Linda Walker and Sharon Ohmberger, both of Burwell, Beverly Mattingly of Branson, Missouri; brother-in-laws, Bill Walker of Arthur, Dave Walker of Burwell, Dan Walker of Oceanside, California, special “family”, Ron and Cheri Chytka and their children and grandchildren, Amanda (Aric) Klemke and Brinley, Samantha (Tanner) Olson and Lex, and Collin (Amanda) Chytka and Audrey and Sawyer and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, son-Bobby, parents, sister, Phyllis Plock and her husband, Bill, brothers, Chuck Chilewski and George Chilewski and his wife, Sharon, sister-in-law, Bonnie Wiley, brothers-in-law, Donald and Leonard Walker and nephew, Jody Wiley.
Memorials are suggested to the Callaway District Hospital or the Callaway United Methodist Church.
