Randy ZoeRay “Chopper” Haddix, 56 of Sidney and Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away July 9, 2018, at the Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colorado.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Reverends Matt Fowler and Alan Davis officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ansley Cemetery with Military Honors. A register book may be signed at Govier Brothers Mortuary or online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com

Randy was born August 22, 1961, at the Community Hospital at Broken Bow, Nebraska to Delmer Abslum and Gertrude Louise (Hastings) Haddix.
Randy was the fourth child of Delmer and Louise Haddix. His siblings, Clyde, Darlene, and Leo.
Randy’s childhood was spent in Mason City, Nebraska. Randy went to Mason City Public School, K-8, and Ansley Public School 9-12. Randy graduated with the class of 1979.
After graduation, Randy enlisted in the Army National Guard-Nebraska. He was stationed with Co C 1195th Armor. His military education was a 14-week training at Fort Knox, Tennessee for an Armor Crewman. His specialty was a 19EIO Armor Crewman. Randy was Honorable Discharged on February 11, 1985, as a Specialist Four E-4 from the Company C 1-195th Armor.
Randy was united in marriage to Linda Anette Klitzman on July 18, 1981, at the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
In August of 1984, Randy started working at the Broken Bow Police Department. While working at the Broken Bow Police Department he was the school resource officer and the Dare Instructor. It was important to Randy to help the kids in school or outside of school.
Randy was a Hunter Safety Instructor up to the time of his untimely death. Always helping to educate the public about hunter safety.
When Randy was in Broken Bow he was a volunteer firefighter and EMT (Emergency Medical Technician).
Randy’s hobbies were cooking, hunting, fishing, skeet and trap shooting. When he went goose hunting he was the designated cook in the goose blind. He loved to cook and try out new recipes when the goose and duck hunters were in the blind. When Randy would start getting ready and packing for his goose hunting trip, his lab, Pepper couldn’t sit still because he knew they were going on a hunting trip and they were going to have fun on the weekend.
In 1998, a friend of Randy’s, while on a goose hunting trip around Sidney, Nebraska, suggested to Randy to fill out an application at Cabela’s as a joke. Randy didn’t think anything about it until Cabela’s called two days later and offered Randy a job. Randy took the job offer and had been at Cabela’s until the buyout. Randy enjoyed working at Cabela’s and meeting people.
In April of 2018, Randy had started his new job at the Cheyenne County Sheriff Department in Sidney, Nebraska as a jailer at the time of his death.
Randy was a member of the Tehama Shriners at Hastings, Nebraska and Frank Welch Lodge #75 at Sidney, Nebraska. He was also a member of the Centurions LEMC.
Randy was a member of the Region 21 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). On April 13 and 14, 2018, the CERT Team assisted the Nebraska State Patrol during the blizzard “due to impassable roads due to zero visibility and drifting snow causing crashes and stranded motorist.” The CERT Team received recognition from Governor Ricketts and the Nebraska State Patrol for the Public Service Award on May 10, 2018.
Randy is survived by his wife, Linda of Broken Bow, Nebraska, brother Clyde Haddix of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Darlene Stunkel of Kearney, Nebraska, brother Leo Haddix of Gibbon, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew, great-great-niece, step-mother-in-law Phyllis Klitzman, and a host of friends in Broken Bow and Sidney.
Randy was proceeded in death by his parents, Delmer and Louise Haddix, mother-in-law, Nettie Klitzman, and father-in-law, Berl Klitzman.
