Funeral Services for Phyllis Bowling, age 86

Phyllis Bowling age 86 of Broken Bow died Sunday, September 9, 2018, at the Custer Care Center in Broken Bow.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 2:00 PM at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor Larry DeMoss officiating. Inurnment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.  Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.  A register book may be signed at Govier Brothers.  Memorials are suggested to the Homeward Trails Bible Camp.  www.govierbothers.com

Phyllis Evelyn Ayres Bowling was born , to Jesse Earl and Eva (Durham) Ayres on a farm in the Coburg Community about 10 miles southwest of Comstock, Nebraska. She was the youngest of nine children.

In 1935 the family moved about 1 mile south to a farm in the Dry Valley Community, where she attended school for 10 years. Her last 2 years of education took place in the Comstock High School where she graduated in 1949.

In 1953 she moved to Broken Bow where she was employed in a nursing home for a few months and then was employed in the Custer County ASCS office (now FSA) for 20 years.

During her teenage years, she attended summer Bible Camp and there accepted Christ as her Saviour. As a testimony of her faith in Christ, she was baptized in August 1953. She attended the Berean Church.

On February 9, 1973, she was united in marriage to John Bowling Jr. who was a farmer-rancher in the Round Hill Community. On June 9, 1976, the Bowling’s became foster parents to brothers James and John Woods, who have remained a part of the family.

Her husband passed away February 5, 1986. During the time of their marriage, and after John’s death, several other foster children were cared for in the home. She taught piano in her home and did babysitting. She served on the Round Hill School Board for 15 years and was a member of the Round Hill Homemakers.

Preceding in death husband John, father Jesse Earl, mother Eva, step-mother Dora, two brothers Wilford and Walter, six sisters Verna, Vera, Helen, Hazel, Mildred and Leila, and nephew Jeffrey Pearson.

Survivors are foster sons James (Amy) Woods of North Platte, John (Erin) Woods and grandchildren Khloe Brooklyn, Augustus Mack, and Abigail Evelyn of Moorefield, twenty-three nieces and nephews, and their families, and four step-children and their families.
