Marylin Amsberry age 85 of the Ansley passed away October 17, 2021, at the Northridge Kinship Pointe in Kearney, NE.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Ansley, NE with Pastor Lori Stevens, and Dean Millsap officiating. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Ansley Fire & Rescue or the United Methodist Church. A visitation will take place on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Marylin was a lifetime resident of Custer County, born March 9, 1936, near Ansley Nebraska, to Delbert and Fern (Perry) Stahl. Marylin was much younger than her siblings. She had two brothers – Gerald (Jeanette) and Norwin (Joanne) Stahl, and one sister – Zola (Melton) Adams. Marylin graduated from Ansley High School in 1954.
She married Jim Amsberry on June 20, 1954. Marylin and Jim lived in Wyoming, Florida, and California while Jim served in the Air Force. In 1956, they purchased farm ground and returned to Ansley with $200 in their bank account, to join Jim’s father, Rollie, in the family farming operation. The couple made their home in Ansley and raised three sons and a daughter in this community.
Marylin was a wonderful cook and loved to share her baked goods with her family and her community. She shared her life story with her grandchildren recently in the form of a cookbook. She tells of raising chickens and sewing for others, but cake decorating was what she really enjoyed. She made wedding cakes for 27 years and birthday cakes for everyone in the family for many years after that. Besides cakes, Marylin was famous for her cinnamon rolls, pies, and noodles. In addition to being a great cook, Marylin loved to quilt. She made all her children Cathedral Window quilts, each grandchild a denim quilt, and every great-grandchild a specially crafted Christmas stocking.
Marylin loved to cook and sew, she also raised a garden and loved to grow flowers. She spent years serving her community in various activities as a school board member, community club member, church member, and avid Ansley sports fan.
Marylin and Jim had four children – Rollie “Skip” (Kathy), Gary (Shelly), Rod (Kara), and Janell (Jeff) Stunkel. She had 11 grandchildren – Rachel (Shane) Hrasky, Jessica (Chris) Christensen, Rebecca (Jared) Hixson, Megan (Alex) Steckler, Brooke (Brad) Greisen, Kaitlin (Jonathan) Hoffee, Garett (Kathryn) Amsberry, Wade Amsberry, Grady (Courtney) Stunkel, Paige Stunkel, and Karlee Stunkel. Marylin enjoyed welcoming 16 great-grandchildren to her family before her passing. Marylin’s family was her pride and joy.
