Funeral Services for Dorothy Stivers, age 82

Dorothy Mae Stivers, 82, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away October 18, 2021. 

Dorothy was born November 10, 1938 to Henry and Alice (Hickey) McCarthy, in Anselmo, Nebraska.  She was raised in Broken Bow, Nebraska where she graduated high school.  On February 18, 1957 Dorothy married Johnnie Stivers in Broken Bow.  Together their marriage was blessed with 4 daughters, Chris, Cathy, Carrie and Cheri.  They spent 60 years of married life in Callaway. In 2016 Dorothy moved to Grand Island, and in 2020 she moved to Lincoln, where she was currently residing.  

Dorothy and Johnnie spent years ranching and running a Farm and Ranch auction business while raising their girls. Dorothy was an excellent homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and baking cakes for special occasions and for the church.  Dorothy had a successful career bookkeeping for their auction business as well as for Farmers COOP, and the Callaway and Oconto Banks. 

Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a member of the Callaway St. Boniface Council of Catholic Women, and the Callaway American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 since 1972.  

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her daughters and their families, which included 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Card games, bingo and a trip to the casino or the horse races were also enjoyed.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Chris (Robin) Myers, Lincoln, Nebraska, Cathy (Derry) Trampe, Ord, Nebraska, Carrie Hanson, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Cheri (John) Erker, Galena, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, brothers Gene (Sharon) McCarthy, Patrick McCarthy and sister in laws Vickie McCarthy and Beverly Stivers; along with many other family and friends. 

Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband Johnnie, her parents Henry and Alice McCarthy, her in-laws Walter and Laura Stivers, son-in-law Randy Hanson, grandson Austin John Hanson, brothers Richard and Micheal McCarthy, brother-in-law Marvin Stivers.

Memorials are suggested to the Callaway Rural Fire Department, or the Callaway Ambulance Fund. 

Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 P.M., Friday, October 22, 2021, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Callaway, with family receiving friends from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M at the church.  Rosary will follow visitation at 6 P.M.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Reverend Thomas Gudipalli as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Callaway, Nebraska.
