Funeral Services for Dick Holeman, age 73

Dick Lee Holeman age 73 of Arcadia, NE passed away at home September 16, 2021.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 20, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Church of God in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Gary Alloway officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Lee Park Cemetery west of Arcadia. A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 19th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with family greeting 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Dick Lee Holeman was born at 6 am in Loup City, NE on October 14, 1947, to Donnell I. and Gertrude I. Holeman. He was the youngest of six with four brothers and one sister.  

Dick went to country schools, Westside and Deem, until 8th grade graduation. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1966. After one year at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Dick volunteered for the draft and entered the army on January 10, 1968. He had basic training in Ft. Lewis, WA, and AIT (advanced infantry training) in Ft. Ord, CA. He then spent 17 months in Germany driving for high-ranking officers. During that time, Dick was awarded the National Defense Service Medal Expert M-14 and the Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged as an E-5 Sergeant on Dec. 30, 1969.

After returning to the United States, Dick married Peggy Lou Woodward on April 12, 1970, in Callaway, NE. Together they had four children.

Dick worked for the Lazy S L Ranch southwest of Callaway, NE with Grayston and Margorie Cool for four years and with Leroy and Loretta Kuck in Bertrand, NE for three years. In January of 1977, Dick and his family moved to their current ranch. He was a Myrtle Township board member a total of 20 years off and on. And he worked at the Custer County Highway Dept. as a mechanic for 22 years and retired in December of 2019. On September 16, 2021, he died peacefully at home with his family close by. 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, June Holeman.

He is survived by his brothers and sister—Eugene and Louise Holeman, Harold and Lois Holeman, Reuben Holeman, Donnell Holeman, and Sharon and Robert John—his wife, Peggy, and their children—Shelley R. and Todd Boldt – Riverdale, NE; Devon L. and Heidi Holeman – Cody, WY; Sheryl L. and Scott Pfeiler – Glenwood, IA; and Susan A. and Gary Alloway – Bristol, PA—along with 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

Dick enjoyed the ranch, cattle, horses, and family, and he was very proud of his children and their families. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
