Funeral Services for David W. “Pete” Pomplun age 86

David W. “Pete” Pomplun age 86, of Oconto, NE passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Darrell Sybrant officiating. Burial will follow at the Broken Bow Township Cemetery with Military Honors. Govier Brothers are in charge of the arrangements.  A visitation will be held on Monday 8 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends from 5 PM to 6 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary.  Memorials are suggested to the Custer County Foundation for the Children’s Christmas Fund.  Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com.

David W. “Pete” Pomplun was born on August 20, 1931, in Broken Bow, NE to George and Fay (Beezley) Pomplun.  He went to several different country schools and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1949.

Pete was united in marriage to Barbara Stephenson on September 21, 1952.  To this union were born two children, Cindy L. and Jerry E.

Pete loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening and just being outside.

Mr. Pomplun worked at various jobs in his lifetime including Nebraska Department of Roads, Custer Public Power, he worked on the road as a Sales Representative for Kriz-Davis, Arkansas Electric, and Resco.  Pete also served his country for 36 years in the Nebraska National Guard, retiring as a Command Sargent Major.

Pete is survived by his wife Barbara of 65 years, daughter Cindy (Kent) Taylor of Broken Bow, NE, son Jerry (Kelli) Pomplun of Broken Bow, NE, seven grandchildren; Jess (Amy) Taylor, Andy (Sadye) Taylor, Jami (Shay) Robinson, Shelby (Brad) Mayer, Micah (Jayme) Pomplun, and Kirby (Shannon) Pomplun, seventeen great-grandchildren, a sister Bessie McMurtry of Lyman, NE, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents (George and Fay Pomplun), sisters, Florence Ash and Alice Fair; brothers-in-law, Jim Fair and Jim McMurtry.
