Oregon State staved off elimination for the third time at the College World Series on Friday by defeating Mississippi State 12-2 at TD Ameritrade Park.

The Beavers broke a 1-1 tie by scoring five runs in the second. They sent 11 to the plate, with the big hit being a two-run single by Adley Rutschman.

Oregon State continued to add to its lead, which grew to 10 runs in the eighth after an RBI double by Nick Madrigal.

The Beavers lost their first game in the double-elimination event but bounced back to defeat Washington and North Carolina before Friday’s win over the Bulldogs.

It was the first tourney loss for Mississippi State and sets up a rematch Saturday at a time to be determined. The winner will advance to the best-of-three final series that begins Monday.
