West Nebraska All Star Volleyball and Football Games set for Friday

The annual West Nebraska All Star volleyball and football games will take place Friday in Scottsbluff.  The 42nd annual all star football game will take place at Bearcat Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm and the 36th annual volleyball match will take place at WNCC Cougar Palace at 4 pm (both times mountain).  Several athletes from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area will be among those competing in Friday’s games.  In the volleyball matchup, Anselmo-Merna head volleyball coach Katie Hoblyn will be the head coach of the East team which will include MaShayla Burnett and Alexis Zimmer of AM as well as Taylor Conroy of South Loup.  The following area athletes were chosen to represent the East team in the football game Friday night.  They include Jace Connell and Grant Jones of South Loup, Ty Kvanvig and Clayton Hassett of Mullen, Brody Steinike and Tucker Wyatt of Gothenburg, and Raiff Ruppert of Twin Loup.  Coy Johnson and Bryan Zutavern of Sandhills/Thedford are among those chosen to represent the West team.

Attendance for this year’s events will have a different look and feel from years past because of the COVID-19 situation.  In an article published by the Star Herald of Scottsbluff, committee chairman Dave Hoxworth said the most noticeable difference will be temperature checks at the game for all fans entering the gym and stadium.  Tickets are usually sold in advance of the games but this year tickets will be sold strictly at the gate because of limited capacity.  Hoxworth said, “Obviously, limiting capacity is huge.  We are going to make sure we do our part…If we reach capacity, we will have to stop selling tickets.”  He said the all-star committee also urges fans to wear masks to the game in addition to keeping 6 feet of separation.
