Weather and related travel concerns are beginning to affect holiday tournament schedules in Nebraska high school basketball.
The Greater Nebraska Conference has postponed all its Thursday games in Columbus, and a decision whether to play the tournament will be made Thursday.
The Weeping Water Holiday Tournament – featuring Conestoga, Lewiston and Sterling – has been postponed to Friday and Saturday. Here is the revised schedule:
Friday
Girls
1st Round: Conestoga vs. Cedar Bluffs – 2:30 p.m.
1st Round: Weeping Water vs. McCool Junction – 2:30 p.m.
Boys
1st Round: Conestoga vs. Sterling – 4 p.m.
1st Round: Weeping Water vs. Dorchester – 4 p.m.
Saturday
Girls
Third place game – 1p.m.
Championship – 4 p.m.
Boys
Third place game – 2:30 p.m.
Championship – 5:30 p.m.
The start of the Cabela’s Shootout in Sidney, which has eight boys and eight girls teams, has been postponed from Thursday to Friday, and the field split into four-team tournaments. The revised schedule:
Friday
Sidney High School gym, Beatrice vs. Laramie (Wyo.) at 2 p.m. (girls) and 3:45 (boys); Sidney vs. Burns (Wyoming) at 5:30 and 7:15. Middle school gym, Chase County vs. Mitchell at 2 (girls) and 3:45 (boys), Superior vs. Torrington (Wyoming) at 5:30 and 7:15.
Saturday
High school bracket: Girls consolation at 10 a.m.; boys consolation at 11:45; girls final at 1:30, boys final at 3:15. Middle school bracket: Girls consolation at 10 a.m.; boys consolation at 11:45; girls final at 1:30, boys final at 3:15.
