Washington State’s Moos to Lead Nebraska Athletics

LINCOLN – The University of Nebraska is once again going to the Pac 12 for a high profile position.

UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green announced on Sunday that Washington State Athletic Director Bill Moos has accepted the open Nebraska AD position. Moos has been at Washington State since 2010. Prior to that, he was the athletic director at Oregon from 1995-2007. During his tenure in Eugene, Moos helped spearhead a major renovation of Autzen Stadium, adding 12,000 seats which helped it develop the reputation as one of the most difficult road environments in college football.

At his introductory news conference on Sunday, Moos said his leadership style is simple:

“Honor the past, live the present, create the future.”

Moos cited his experience at previous universities, saying he wants to excel and be the best in all areas.

“I’m a fierce competitor,” the 66-year old said. “We’ve done, I can humbly say, some remarkable things at places that didn’t have the same things in place like Nebraska has.”

As for embattled Nebraska head coach Mike Riley, Moos said “As we speak right now, he’s my football coach, and I’m going to support him.”

At Washington State, Moos hired current head football coach Mike Leach, who has a 35-35 record in his time in Pullman.

Moos also served as dean of the Pac 12 Conference Athletic Directors, helping to negotiate the conference’s $3 billion television deal with Fox and ESPN.

Moos will take over for interim AD Dave Rimington officially on October 23rd.

Green announced his decision in a meeting with Nebraska’s head coaches on Sunday.

Green said Sunday that the search committee for Nebraska’s AD search included current coaches like John Cook and Rhoda Revelle as well as Husker legends like Eric Crouch and Jordan Burroughs.
