Walker, McBride, Leibhart, and Smith Medal at Boys State Golf

The 2019 NSAA Boys State Golf Championships were held Wednesday.  After Mother Nature forced the cancellation of round one Tuesday, the state tournament was shortened to a one day 18 hole tournament on Wednesday.

Lake Maloney Golf Course at North Platte was host to the Class D championship.  West Holt won the team championship by one shot over North Platte St. Pat’s.  Mullen finished 7th in the final team standings and Burwell finished tied for 10th.   Jeremy McMillan Peter of Paxton was the individual champion with a round of 3 over par 75.  Mullen’s Koby Walker finished tied for 5th with a round of 82 and Jordan McBride of Burwell finished tied for 9th with a round of 84.  Also receiving a medal at the Class D tournament, was Jace Leibhart  of Anselmo-Merna who finished in a tie for 15th with an 87.

The Class C championship was played at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney.  Grand Island Central Catholic was the team champion winning by one stroke over runner -up Battle Creek.  Preston Carbaugh of Cambridge was the individual champion with a low round of 3 over par 75.  South Loup’s Colbi Smith placed in the top 15 for a state medal.  Smith finished tied for 15th with a round of 84.

The Elks Country Club in Columbus played host to the Class B championship.  The team title went to North Platte who was two shots better than Adams Central.  Luke Gutschewski of Mount Michael Benedictine was the individual champion shooting a 1 under par 71.  Cozad finished 9th in the final team standings and were led by Adam Cole who finished in a tie for 22nd with a round of 85.  Jake Scherer of Gothenburg  shot an 89.

The Class A championship was played at the Norfolk Country Club with Creighton Prep winning the team championship and Luke Kluver of Norfolk won the individual title with a round of 2 over par 74.
