Two free-throws in overtime sinks Lourdes at Boys Town

BOYS TOWN – Boys Town junior Davion Saunsocia hit two free-throws in overtime and the Cowboys beat Lourdes Central Catholic, 57-55, Friday night in Boys Town.

Knights senior Quinten Vasa sent the game into overtime by hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer off an inbounds pass from senior Neilas Tamosiunas. The Cowboys had taken a three-point lead with 40 seconds left in regulation, thanks to a three-pointer from sophomore Keonti Burnett.

Boys town finished with three players in double figures. Davion Jones and Uzziah Freeman had 14 a piece, and Saunsocia chipped in 13.

Vasa having a game-high 24 point and 7 rebounds to lead the Knights. Senior Jack Funke added 10 points.

Meanwhile in the girls game, it was all Lourdes Central Catholic from the tip. Libby Baumert hit a three-pointer four seconds into the game and the Knights cruised to a 66-19 victory over Boys Town.

Gina McGowen was one of four players in double-figures for Nebraska City Lourdes. The freshman finished with 14 points. Senior Anna Heng scored 11, Baumert and sophomore Macey Allgood each had 10.

The Lourdes Central Catholic girls team will compete in the Class D1-3 Sub-District Tournament on Tuesday when they play Omaha Christian Academy in the semi-finals at 7:30 p.m.

The Lourdes boys will host Bishop Neumann Saturday afternoon.
