State Wrestling Day 2 Recap : Several Area Wrestlers to Go for Gold on Championship Saturday

It was a big night for wrestlers from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area Friday as several advanced out of the semifinals and wrestle for gold on “Championship Saturday” at the NSAA state wrestling championships in Omaha. Casey Faulkenberry of Broken Bow won by fall over Isaiah Shields of Amherst in the Class C semifinals at 126 lbs. Faulkenberry will wrestle Chris Williams of Valentine for the state title Saturday. The two have wrestled 3 previous times this season with Williams winning two of three including a thrilling match in the district final a week ago. Lathan Duda of Broken Bow remained undefeated and improved to 53-0 with a 3-2 decision over Brady Knott of Louisville. Duda will face Trevor Peterson of Chase County in the 182 lb. championship. It too will be a rematch of last week’s district final which was won by Duda.

Class D will feature two all area finals. Cyrus Wells of Anselmo-Merna will face Teven Marshall of Mullen for 120 lb. championship. Wells is now 30-0 on the season and top ranked in the weight class. Marshall is 41-2 with both losses coming to Wells. Reece Zutavern of Sandhills/Thedford defeated Jarrett Parsons of High Plains and Blake Racicky defeated Jackson Feulner of Thayer Central on Friday night to set up a match between the two for the 160 lb. championship. Racicky is now 37-2 on the season while Zutavern improved to 46-6.
