State Track – Championship Saturday – Classes C and B

The Class C state track and field championships came to their conclusion on Saturday at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Among the area highlights on Saturday, the South Loup girls placed 5th Saturday in the 4×100 meter relay at the Class C state track and field championships. South Loup ran out of lane 8 in the opening heat of the event and posted a fabulous time of 50.91 seconds which was fifth fastest at the state meet to earn Mya Weverka, Halie Recoy, Bryn Schwarz, and Jadeyn Bubak the fifth place medal. Jadeyn Bubak would also medal in the girls 100 meter dash placing 6th in a time of 12.61 seconds.  The Burwell boys placed 6th in the 4×100 meter relay. The team of Dominic Tolfa, Alex Gideon, Cash Gurney, and Caleb Busch posted a time of 44.42 to earn the 6th place medal.  Caleb Busch would then medal in the boys 100 meter dash placing 7th in a time of 11.16 seconds.  Nikia Williams of Burwell medaled Saturday in the girls high jump. Williams cleared 5’2″ which was tied for fifth best but after the tie break Williams would receive the 8th place medal.  Carter Mann of Burwell, who placed 2nd in the boys discus Friday, would place 7th in the boys shot put on Saturday with an effort of 49′ 10″. Jessica Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City, who took gold in the shot put on Friday, placed 4th in Saturday’s girls discus with an effort of 125′. Stieb’s effort of 44′ 7.5″ in the shot put Friday was also best among all classes.  Abby Stallbaumer of South Loup would place 8th in the girls discus with an effort of 119’11”. Chase County won the Class C girls state team championship with 68 points. Arcadia/Loup City and South Loup each finished in the top 20 of the girls team standings. ALC was 16th with 15 points and South Loup was 19th with 12.5 points. Aquinas Catholic of David City won the Class C boys state team championship with 53 points. Burwell finished in the top 20 of the final boys team standings finishing 19th with 15 points.

Broken Bow’s Kya Scott and Qwentin Coble competed for the Indians on the final day of the Class B state track and field championships Saturday. Scott competed in the girls high jump clearing 5′ to finish tied for 15th overall in the event. Coble competed in the boys triple jump Saturday afternoon. Coble’s best effort was 41’4.75″ which was 13th best overall at the state meet.
