State Cross Country Championships Friday in Kearney

The State Cross Country Championships take place Friday in Kearney at the Kearney Country Club.  The Broken Bow boys cross country team qualified for the state meet by finishing 2nd at the C5 district in Ogallala with three runners finishing in the top 15 including Daine Wardyn 7th, Noah Osmond 9th, and  Trey Hurlburt finished 12th.  Makinley Tobey qualified as an individual for the Class C girls competition.  KCNI/KBBN Sports visited with the Broken Bow qualifiers as they prepare for the state championships this week.  Daine Wardyn told us that the boys team has the goal of finishing in the top five.

 

Broken Bow cross country coach Jason Daffer told Central Nebraska’s Sports Source that the message in practice this week has been to not be satisfied with what has been accomplished so far.

 

The Class C girls race is scheduled for 1:30 with the Class C boys race to follow at 2 pm.

Friday’s championships will begin with the Class D girls race at Noon followed by the Class D boys at 12:30 pm.  Several athletes from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area will be competing in Class D.  On the girls side area competitors include : Landyn Cole (South Loup), Jessie Heyen (Arcadia/Loup City), Josie Smith (SEM), Callie Coble and Josey French of Mullen, and Jymmie Jensen of Burwell.  On the boys side area competitors include : Mullen and Sandhills Valley (Stapleton/McPherson County) qualified as a team.  Qualifying as individuals were Ty Greenland and Jarrod Gappa of Arcadia/Loup City.
