State Championship Day!!

The NSAA will crown state champions in all seven classes today in high school football.  The Nebraska Schools Activities Association announced last Friday that this year’s championship games would not be played in Lincoln at Memorial Stadium this season and instead would all be played today at the site of the higher seeded team in each class.

In Class D2, the Sandhills/Thedford Knights will be making their first state championship appearance as a co-op program as they travel to Shickley to face Bruning Davenport Shickley who will be making their 4th state championship appearance as a co-op.  Today’s game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff.  The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com.

The Burwell Longhorns will be playing in their 3rd straight championship game and their 5th in the last six years.  Burwell was state champion in 2016 and finished as runner-up in 2015, 2018, and 2019.  The Longhorns will host Dundy County Stratton for the Class D1 title.  DCS will making its first state championship appearance.  The two met in last year’s D1 semifinals with Burwell winning 28-10.  Kickoff for today’s game is scheduled for 5 pm.

Adams Central at Pierce – 5:30 p.m.

Ord at Archbishop Bergan – Game at Heedum Field in Fremont – 3:15 p.m.

Six-Man
McCool Junction vs. Sterling – Game at UNK’s Cope Stadium – 7 p.m.
