The Nebraska Coaches Association has released the names of those selected to play in its all star games this summer. The 41st NCA girls all star basketball game is scheduled for Monday July 26th tipping off at 6 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School followed by the 52nd boys all star basketball game. Lincoln North Star will host the 37th NCA all star volleyball match which will be played Tuesday July 27th at 6 p.m. and the 16th all star softball game will take place Wednesay July 28th at 5 p.m. at UNL’s Bowlin Stadium.
Last year’s games did not take place due to COVID-19 concerns. Broken Bow girls head basketball coach Kelly Cooksley will be one of the head coaches for the girls all star basketball game. He told KCNI/KBBN Sports that he feels honored for the opportunity.
Among the players chosen to compete in this year’s all star girls basketball game are Kali Staples of Broken Bow and Samantha Moore of Mullen. Staples is the career assists record holder for Broken Bow girls basketball and averaged 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game this past season. Staples was a 2nd team Class C1 all state selection by the Lincoln Journal Star. Staples has signed her letter of intent to play college basketball for Doane University. Staples said that she was excited to receive the invitation and looks forward to playing with the great talent that will compete in the game.
Kali is currently competing in track and field but said she still gets into the gym to stay sharp.
Moore was voted first team all state by both the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star in Class D2. Moore averaged 17 points and 4 rebounds per game this season and has signed her letter of intent to play collegiately for the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Cooksley coached Staples for four seasons at Broken Bow and had the opportunity to coach Moore during summer league. He said both players are very deserving of this honor.
