South Loup Wins Boys C-8 District Team Title and South Loup Girls Finish 3rd

The South Loup boys track team claimed the C-8 district team championship on Thursday (5/10) at Cambridge. The Bobcats finished with a team high 116 points followed by Southwest in second with 92 points and Dundy County-Stratton was third with 80. In Class C, the top 2 places in the field events and individual running events automatically qualify for state and the first place relay teams qualify. Drew Vickers of South Loup placed 2nd in the boys high jump to qualify and he also qualified in the 110 meter hurdles with a 2nd place finish. Kalen Dockweiler was the district champ in the boys 800 in winning time of 2:00.81. Spencer Johnson was the district champion in the boys 1600 with a time of 4:54.01 and Cooper Taylor took gold in the 3200 in a time of 10:49.6. The South Loup boys 4×100 meter relay team (Landon Furne, Jack Rush, Blake Schwarz, and Leighton Bubak) qualified for state with a district winning time of 45.22 and the 4×800 relay team (Landon Furne, Blake Brown, Cooper Taylor, and Kalen Dockweiler) qualified with a winning time of 8:27.89.

The South Loup girls track team placed 3rd in the team standings behind champion North Platte St. Pat’s who edged Kearney Catholic by 1 point to win the team title. Jessie Sallach was the district champion in the girls shot put (37’2″) and won the girls discus (124’7″) to qualify for state in both events. Jadeyn Bubak also qualified in 2 individual events. Bubak won the girls 100 meter dash (12.48) and placed 2nd in the 200. Bubak would then team up with Atlynn Witthuhn, Taylor Conroy, and Saffron Phillips to qualify in the 4×100 meter relay with a district winning time of 51.19 seconds. Landyn Cole qualified in the 1600 meter run with a 2nd place finish and Taylor Conroy qualified in the girls long jump with a district winning effort of 16’7.5″.
