South Loup Girls and Burwell Boys Claim Team Titles at Burwell Track Invite

The South Loup girls and Burwell boys claimed the team titles at the annual Burwell track and field invitational Thursday.  Burwell won the boys team title with 127 points followed by Riverside in second with 100 points and Ansley/Litchfield placed third with 96 points.  Arcadia/Loup City was fifth in the boys team standings with 53 points just a half point ahead of South Loup who finished 6th.  South Loup won the girls team title with 132 points.  West Holt was runner-up with 96 points and Burwell placed third with 86.5 points.  Arcadia/Loup City placed fourth with 82 points and Anselmo-Merna rounded out the top five with 69 points.

Dominic Tolfa of Burwell and Carli Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield turned in two of the top individual performances on the day.  Each won three individual golds.  Tolfa won the boys 100 (11.2), the 200 (22.8), and 400 (52.3).  Bailey won the girls 400 (1:01.5), swept the hurdles winning the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.5 seconds and the 300 hurdles in time of 48.6.

Carter Mann of Burwell and Jessica Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City each swept the weight events.  Mann won the boys discus with an effort of 147′ and won the shot put going 47′ 5″.  Stieb did the same winning the girls discus with an effort of 129′ 6″ and won the shot put with an effort of 42′ 2.5″.

Landyn Cole of South Loup swept the girls distance races winning the 3200 in a time of 12:48.5 and winning the 1600 in a time of 6:02.2.  Collin Arehart of Ansley/Litchfield was a double gold medal winner placing first in the 1600 (5:02.4) and the 800 (2:07.8). Halie Recoy of South Loup won two golds winning the girls 100 in a time of 13.1 and winning the 200 in a time of 27.1.
