Sandhills Open Road Challenge Events Continue – Shoot Out Cut Short

The 2020 Sandhills Open Road Challenge events continued today (8/7) with the ½ and one mile shootout held 12 miles north of Cozad on Rd. 421.  There were some impressive speeds turned in but unfortunately the event was cut short due to oil on the road.  Contestants were able to complete two of the three scheduled rounds of the ½ mile shootout but only able to finish one round of the mile shootout.  Mark Capener of Idaho Falls, ID wowed the spectators in attendance as he was clocked at 234.1 mph in the one mile shootout and Jeremy Boldt of Omaha also went over 200 mph posting a speed of 214.4.  The fastest speed posted in the ½ mile shootout was 177.1 mph.

The 20th running of the Sandhills Open Road Challenge, the road race between Arnold and Dunning, will take place Saturday beginning at 8:30 on the north edge of Arnold.  KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com will provide live radio coverage of Saturday’s race.  News Channel Nebraska will be on hand to televise the start of the race.  Check your local listings for the availability of the NCN channel in your area.  News Channel Nebraska also plans to stream the broadcast live on their website www.newschannelnebraska.com
