The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider new recommendations for deer, antelope and elk hunting seasons when it meets Thursday at Fort Robinson State Park.
The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at Buffalo Barracks within the park, which is located west of Crawford.
Staff also will recommend the creation of regulations for a passage Peregrine Falcon trapping season. If approved, licensed falconers could capture a limited number of migrant juvenile peregrines during a short period in fall.
Captured birds would be trained and used in falconry.
Also on the agenda are staff recommendations to:
» Approve the 2018 Nebraska Game and Parks Policy Manual;
» Establish fees for activities and facilities at Eugene T. Mahoney, Platte River and Ponca State Parks;
» Approve an agreement for the sale and purchase of the Spencer Hydro Facility, which is located in a portion of Holt and Boyd counties.
The Commission also will hear staff updates regarding mountain lion public informational meetings, aquatic habitat projects at Fort Robinson, a fishing forecast for Game and Parks’ northwest district and an environmental report.
Outdoor adventure
The seventh annual outdoor adventure at Indian Cave State Park will be April 28.
The day’s activities include a mushroom hunting contest, Morel Mile run and 5K race, hayrack rides, archery, horseback rides, Dutch oven cooking and kayaking. Biscuits and gravy will be served for breakfast, with a fish fry for lunch.
This event is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A park entry permit is required of each vehicle. Fees will be charged for meals.
Birding days
Birders can join the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for Southeast District Birding Day on May 2 at Indian Cave State Park.
Birders will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the park entrance parking lot. A park entry permit is required for each vehicle.
Birders will split into groups and hike various sites in the park looking for bird species. A lunch break will feature speakers and a review of species observed.
Participants should bring lunch, binoculars, a camera, a field guide and appropriate clothing for the steep terrain and weather.

A birding day will also be held May 15 at Davis Creek Wildlife Management Area.
Resource professionals and bird experts will take inventory of the spring migratory birds at Davis Creek. Participants will leave at 5:30 a.m. from the day-use area at the southwest end of the lake.

Girls workshop
Iowa’s Outdoor Journey for Girls workshop is accepting reservations.
The workshop will be July 10 to 12 at Hickory Hills, southwest of La Porte City, and Aug. 1 to 3 at Clover Woods Camp and Retreat, northwest of Madrid.
Outdoor Journey for Girls is a three-day, two-night workshop aimed at introducing outdoor skills to girls ages 12 to 15 in an environment where they have hands-on opportunities to try new experiences.
Outdoor skills offered include canoeing and water safety, fish and wildlife identification, archery, firearm safety, basic shooting, fishing and more.
Participants can earn certification in hunter education.
Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. The registration fee is $150 and full or partial scholarships are available from Iowa Pheasants Forever chapters and other conservation organizations. Registration forms and chaperone or sponsorship opportunities are available at www.iwinr.com.
