OPTIMA Batteries Team Going for Title of “Fastest Street Legal Minivan”

The Sandhills Open Road Challenge activities began Thursday with the running of the “Loup 2 Loup” race between Halsey and Purdum.  Another feature event will take place Friday morning with the 1/2 and 1 mile shootout 12 miles North of Cozad on Road 421.  OPTIMA Batteries, a long time corporate sponsor of the Sandhills Open Road Challenge, has announced that they will be represented in the shootout and will be going for the title of “Fastest Street Legal Minivan” during the Sandhills Open Road Challenge.  OPTIMA PowerPro Ambassador, Tanner Foust, will be driving the Mercedes Benz r63 for the one mile stretch in an attempt to set the world record.  Foust, a four time X games gold medalist for RallyCross and Gymkhana, and a two-time Formula Drift Champion, said “I’ve raced in all types of cars, but never a minivan.  I can’t wait to get out there and prove that minivans can burn some serious rubber too.”  Weistec Engineering had their hand in making the street legal minivan come alive with all of its tweaks and additions.  This is certainly not your average soccer mom ride.  KBBN radio will provide live coverage of the shootout Friday morning on 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.  The shootout is scheduled for 8 am.

Dave Birnie visited with Optima battery team member Jeffrey Brusseau who shared what all the Optima team is bringing to SORC this year.
