Ogallala Wins Mid Nebraska League Seniors Championship

The Ogallala American Legion Seniors baseball team claimed the title of the Mid Nebraska League tournament on Friday.  Ogallala came out of the west division as the top seed with wins over Imperial/Chase County and Broken Bow to win the west divison title.  Kearney was the east division representative.  Kearney came out of the east as the #6 seed with wins over the #3 seed St. Paul, the #2 seed Central City, and the top seed in the east Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley.  Ogallala hosted the league championship game last Friday and was able to hold off the upset minded Kearney seniors.  Jordan Callihan went the distance for Ogallala pitching all seven innings giving up just 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 10.  One of the hits Callihan surrendered was a 2 run homer to Kearney’s Alex Hunt which gave Kearney the lead 2-1 in the fourth but Ogallala would come back to tie it at 2-2 in the fifth.  Ogallala then took the lead back for good in the sixth when Lane Blackwell drove in Callihan on a ground rule double and Ian Shaw drove in an insurance run with an infield single as Ogallala was able to claim the championship 4-2.
