The Nebraska Schools Activities Association released a statement Monday (12/14) updating its COVID protocols for the 2020-21 winter sports season for Nebraska high school athletics. The guidelines outlined in the statement will be in effect until January 4th, 2021. The statement reads that circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic continue to change and vary from community to community. The NSAA stated that difficult decisions will have to be made from week to week or even day to day and reiterated that the health and safety of students, staff, and local communities remain the priority of the NSAA. The Association’s release said that it will continue to be the responsibility of the host school to provide administrative oversight and compliance with established COVID-19 guidelines in accordance with their local health departments and facilities.
The updated guidelines continue to restrict attendance for winter sports activities. Attendance is still restricted to households but may include grandparents now. Six feet of physical distance is required between household groups in stands and spectator areas. The host school may establish additional requirements in consultation with local health departments. Face coverings will continue to be required for all spectators at all times while attending indoor events.
