Northeast Community College is headed to the NJCAA Division II World Series

MILES CITY, Mont. — Northeast Community College — in the program’s second season — earned a spot in the NJCAA Division II World Series by sweeping a pair of games from 18th-ranked Miles.

Northeast (34-18) took the best-of-three series by winning 11-4 and 8-4 Sunday.

Elkhorn graduate Drew Smith led Northeast in the opener, with two runs and two RBIs. Blair’s Mills Macek also homered while Bellevue West grad Cam Taylor pitched into the sixth for the win.

Smith then hit two homers in the nightcap. Ralston’s Donovan Warren added two RBIs for Northeast, which begins World Series play Saturday in Enid, Oklahoma.

Iowa Western will try to secure its spot in the Division I World Series when it faces Wabash Valley at noon Monday.

Because of rain, the Reivers didn’t play Sunday. They are 2-0 at the district, and Wabash would need to beat IWCC twice to advance.
