Nebraska waiving rental fees for NSAA 2017-18 championship events held at Husker facilities

LINCOLN — The University of Nebraska athletic department, because of the Huskers playing a Friday night football game in conflict with high school activities, will waive rental fees this school year for the Nebraska School Activities Association championship events held at NU facilities.

NSAA Executive Director Jim Tenopir said Thursday the waiver applies to football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball and swimming and diving. The savings to the NSAA will be about $23,000.

The NSAA still must pay other expenses such as facility staffing.

NU visits Illinois on Sept. 29. Two Lincoln high school games will be played at Memorial Stadium the next afternoon. Those are Lincoln Southwest-North Platte and Lincoln Northeast-Fremont. NU is not charging rental fees for those games, either.
