Nebraska Shrine Bowl Releases Updated Rosters as they Prepare for Game on July 11th

While several state high school all star sporting events have been cancelled this summer because of the coronavirus pandemic, anticipation grows for the shrine bowl which is still scheduled to take place on July 11th.  This year will mark the 62nd annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl.  The all star football game is considered one of the state’s most prestigious high school all star sports events.  The game helps raise funds and awareness to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.  The game will take place at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  The process to deliver this year’s event has been challenging to say the least and is being overseen by a joint steering committee which is led by Shrine Bowl executive director Dave MacDonald.  Following their meeting earlier this month, MacDonald said,

“Since the postponement of the Game from June to July was agreed several weeks ago, the strong spirit of collaboration between the NSB, Kearney Visitors Bureau, the City of Kearney, Two River Public Health Department, and the University of Nebraska – Kearney has allowed us to bring some clarity and certainty about the safety and health of participants to the student-athletes, coaches, parents, fans, and stakeholders around the state of Nebraska. The principles outlined today will allow us to continue in this spirit, and to answer the many questions that remain, in as an efficient manner as possible. We believe that the Nebraska Shrine Bowl will be a beacon of hope to Nebraskans during these troubled times. The Nebraska Shrine Bowl Steering Committee will give its all to ensure that this is the case and the event is carried out within the mandated health measures ensuring the safest possible event for everyone.”

Updated rosters for the game were recently released.  Among those selected for this year’s game are area athletes CJ Hoevet of Ord, Tucker Wyatt of Gothenburg, and Nathan Breon of Cozad.  Sandhills/Thedford head football coach Josh Deines will serve as one of the assistant coaches for the North Team.
