Class A notes: Two-time defending champion Marian maintains its hold on the top spot, further strengthening its grip with a 4-2 win over No. 2 Millard North last week. … Millard West’s loss Wednesday to Bellevue West in the opening round of the Metro tournament drops the Wildcats to sixth and opens a spot in the top five for Lincoln Southeast.  The Knights lost for the first time this season Saturday, a 1-0 Lincoln Southwest result in the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament finals. … Omaha Burke joins the ratings, replacing a Kearney team that it lost to in a shootout on opening weekend. The Bulldogs’ other two losses — to Omaha Westside and Papio — were by a single goal.

Class B notes: Not a lot of change in the Class B ratings as the top four keep their order and all 10 ranked teams remain that way. There will be challenges for teams at the top this week, though. Two-time defending champion Omaha Skutt has home matches Tuesday and Friday before a weekend meeting with Millard West in the Kicks For a Cure event. … Elkhorn South will play in Monday’s Metro tournament quarterfinals, where a win could get it a meeting with Marian in the semifinals Tuesday. Win there and a match with another ranked opponent would await in Wednesday’s championship before a weekend match with Millard South.

Class A notes: Kearney’s 3-0 result over Lincoln Southwest jumped the Bearcats a spot, but not more because of a setback a few nights later to Lexington. … Omaha Bryan, Lincoln East and North Platte replace Millard West, Millard North and Omaha Central. … Bryan knocked off Elkhorn South and Millard North last week to join the ratings. The Bears have a rematch with Elkhorn South in Monday’s Metro Conference tournament quarterfinals. … Lincoln East beat Grand Island on Saturday and was competitive in losses to Omaha Westside and Lincoln Southwest previously. … North Platte has won six straight and will meet Kearney in the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference finals Monday.

Defending champion Elkhorn South fell to the same Bryan team that it will meet in Monday’s Metro Conference tournament quarterfinals. … Speaking of rematches, Lexington had one last week. The Minutemen knocked off Kearney on Tuesday, but fell 3-0 to the Bearcats in the GNAC tournament over the weekend. … Among a handful of intriguing matches in the class this week: Elkhorn South in the Metro tournament and Friday at Lincoln North Star; South Sioux City in the Benson Cup with Bryan Friday and Saturday; Elkhorn’s Monday visit to Blair (7-1).
