Nebraska High School Rodeo Contestants Stay Busy Over Holiday Weekend

The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association made a stop in Nuckolls County Saturday and Sunday. Area cowboys and cowgirls again gave strong performances. Some of the area highlights from the weekend included Brooke McCulley of Mullen winning the Breakaway Roping on Saturday in a time of 2.53 seconds. On Sunday, Colt Hesseltine of Halsey tied with Gauge McBride of Kearney for the top score in the barebacks with a 65. Brooklyn Leach of Dunning had the winning time in the barrel racing on Sunday at 15.435 seconds and Cauy Pokorny of Stapleton teamed with Clay Holz of Niobrara to win the team roping in a time of 8.65 seconds. Contestants then competed at the State Fair in Grand Island on Labor Day.  Some of the area highlights there included Jentri Hurlburt of Arcadia winning the Breakaway Roping in a time of 2.76 seconds, Kesha DeGroff of Broken Bow won the girls cutting with a score of 73, Hanna Huffman of Burwell won the Pole Bending in a time of 21.677, and Cooper Bass teamed with Zack Bradley to win the team roping in a time of 8.43 seconds.
