Nebraska High School Rodeo Association Begins Fall Season

The fall season began this past weekend for those that compete in Nebraska High School Rodeo. The opening competitions of the season took place in Bassett last Saturday and Sunday. Area cowboys and cowgirls turned in some strong performances. On Saturday, Madison Mills of Eddyville, NE set the winning mark in pole bending. The reigning state champion in the event posted a winning time of 20.699. Dane Pokorny of Stapleton teamed up with partner Clay Holz of Niobrara to win the team roping in a time of 6.73. Cooper Bass and Zack Bradley of Brewster were right behind in the runner-up spot in a time of 6.84. Jace Hurlburt of Arcadia was runner-up in the breakaway roping on Saturday and Brody McAbee of Ansley scored a 68 in the saddle broncs to place 2nd.

On Sunday, Taci Flinn of Arcadia took the title in the barrel racing with a winning time of 17.516. Several area competitors finished in the runner-up position of their respective event. Cody Miller of Broken Bow was 2nd in the boys cutting, Hanna Huffman of Burwell was runner-up in goat tying, Dean Schroder of Taylor put together a qualified ride to finish second in the saddle broncs, and Jace Hurlburt of Arcadia teamed with Tate Talkington of Scottsbluff to place 2nd in the team roping.
