Nebraska Football Coaches Ryan Held and Ron Brown Visit Broken Bow as Part of the Big Red Blitz

Members of the Nebraska Athletic Department, including coaches and administrators, toured the state Wednesday as part of the “Big Red Blitz” presented by First National Bank of Omaha.  One of the stops on Wednesday’s tour was Broken Bow.  Members of the Nebraska football coaching staff, Ryan Held and Ron Brown, along with Keith Zimmer, senior associate AD/Life Skills, visited with the public at Kinkaider Brewing Co.

Ron Brown, who is serving in the role of “senior offensive analyst” this season, shared his first experience of visiting Broken Bow.  Coach Brown was sent by coach Tom Osborne to watch a Broken Bow football game in 1987, the year Broken Bow won the Class B state title.  Coach said he learned quickly the correct way to pronounce Broken Bow.

Coach Brown spoke of his relationship with current head coach Scott Frost.  Coach Brown was an assistant coach during the time Frost played for the Huskers.  Brown shared how Frost handled the ups and downs as a player and is showing those same traits as a coach.

Ryan Held serves as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the Nebraska football staff.  Held was asked about the effects of the transfer portal as it exists now in college football.

Held shared how coaches gauge talent and what they are looking for as they recruit players out of high school.

Nebraska will open the 2021 college football season August 28th on the road against Big Ten rival Illinois.
