Mullen Wins Boys Title and South Loup Takes Girls Crown at MNAC Tournament

The Mullen Broncos outlasted South Loup in double overtime to claim the boys title of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament on Saturday. With South Loup leading, a foul was called as the buzzer sounded at the end of regulation which sent Mullen’s Jaden Emerson to the line where he tied the game up at 42-42 to force overtime. In the overtime period, each team scored only 3 points and the game was still tied to send it into double overtime. In the second overtime period, Mullen outscored South Loup 7-2 to claim a 52-47 victory. Jaden Emerson led the way for Mullen with a team high 21 points while Grant Jones was top man for South Loup with 22.

The South Loup Lady Bobcats claimed the MNAC girls title. South Loup handed Mullen its first loss of the season in Saturday’s championship game. South Loup used an 11-0 run to end the first half to take an 8 point lead into halftime. The Bobcats were able to hang on to the lead through the 2nd half and claimed a 51-39 win. South Loup’s Jessie Sallach led all scorers with 19 while Kalie Glendy had another big night off the bench for the Bobcats with 13. Samantha Moore led the way for Mullen with a team high 14. South Loup improves to 16-1 on the season.

Anselmo-Merna won both the girls and boys 3rd place consolation games on Saturday. A-M defeated Hyannis in the boys consolation 63-46 and A-M defeated Cody Kilgore in the girls consolation 59-46.
